چکیده

Introduction Providing more comfortable station environment foremost from the customer’s point of view is essential for sustaining railway customers. As the result of surveys regarding comfort and cleanliness of railway stations and airports, approximately 90% of customers answered that airports are more comfortable and cleaner than railway stations (Fig. 1). Customers also have shown a keen interest in indoor air quality and odor in stations (Fig. 2). Therefore, the authors commenced to perform surveys to evaluate the indoor air quality of railway stations that integrates customers’ views with investigations of airborne microorganisms.

Distribution of airborne bacteria in railway stations in Tokyo, Japan.

OBJECTIVES We performed the current study to (1) understand the distribution of culturable airborne bacteria over a one-year monitoring period, (2) confirm places in stations where airborne bacteria are highly detected, (3) understand the factors that affect concentrations of airborne bacteria and (4) compare the distributions of airborne bacteria and fungi in railway stations in Japan. METHO...

Hygienic Environment of Railway Stations – Investigation and Countermeasures for Reduction of Microbial Volatile Organic Compounds (MVOCs) Generated by Fungi in Railway Stations – T. Kyotani,

It was made clear that many railway customers thought the major important factors which influence comfort of stations were “odors” and “clearness of air”. We also found that there was a high correlation between the evaluation of customers about odors and the amount of fungi floating in the air at several points of stations. So we consider that microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) genera...

A mathematical model for finding the optimal locations of railway stations

Regarding the importance of competitive advantages among the transportation systems, improving the costumer’s satisfaction is an important factor in attracting them to these systems. In this research, we focus on the effects of constructing new stations on users and a new mathematical model is proposed for this problem. In the proposed model, two simultaneous effects on customers by constructin...
